I colori del Giappone, la mostra fotografica al Museo Chiossone di Genova

The colors of Japan, the photographic exhibition at the Chiossone Museum in Genoa

GENOA - The blue and white, the auspicious red and the vermilion of the Shinto Torii gates. The color, or rather the colors of Japan, are the very history of an ancient land, told through the images of Genoese photographer and blogger Fabio Accorrà in an exhibition opening January 9th at 5:00 PM at the E. Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art.

More than an exhibition, 'The Colors of Japan' is the opening of a travel diary that tells, through color, the thousand-year history of a Japan dear to artists such as Horiuchi and Hokusai. Not photographs, but kakémono with images that are symbolic of Japan: the pure white of Mount Fuji, the yellow of Nikko's foliage, the intense blue of Lake Hakone, the gold of Kyoto's Kinkakuji temple, and the vermilion of the torii, the gates of Shinto shrines.

In short, the exhibition is a sort of Yamato-e, a tale of the beauty of unusual places with a powerful chromatic allure. The photographs on display at the Chiossone are taken from Accorrà's book "The Colors of Japan"—hence the exhibition's title, published by Erga, 2019—but a new selection is also available, accompanied by the author's travel commentaries and insights into colors in Japanese culture, elements that will guide visitors on a journey to discover the beauty of Japan. The exhibition, curated by Aurora Canepari, will continue until February 16th.
